About Me

Hello.

I'm Nick Nelson. I make handcrafted, fine-art digital paintings, with a tablet, stylus, and hella love. Thank you for visiting my website.

Since as long as I could pick up a crayon, I've made some form of art. Whether sketching, painting, playing music, or majoring in creative writing, I've always felt the need to create. In fact, if you count Mario Paint, I've been making digital art since the early 1990s! Through the thick and thin of school, jobs, a career, and the trials and tribulations of life, art was always there.

"...a tablet, stylus, and hella love."

For years, I worked for an NGO that fights human trafficking. A basic part of my job was dealing with horrifying situations. It was perhaps the most meaningful work I've ever done in my life, but it was also work that took a deep toll on my mental health. During that time, art was always in the background, as a support. I learned to paint with acrylic and oil, and continued writing, as well.

In 2021, I had to leave my NGO career to tend to my mental health. It was then that I discovered digital painting. I found that when I had anxiety, creating a calm nature scene greatly alleviated that anxiety. I began minting my creations as digital collectibles, and went on the adventure of a lifetime, connecting with a beautiful community of collectors and fellow artists, and for over a year, art was the center of my world. I've poured a lot of love into each piece, and each piece contains a piece of me.

"a piece of me."

I'm from the Pacific Northwest, originally. I grew up in a neighborhood in Seattle called Ballard. All my life, I was surrounded by the most magnificent natural beauty in the world (in my humble opinion). Even as I lived on the other side of the country for almost a decade, the scenery of the Pacific Northwest still echoed in my mind. It often comes out in my work, as I love to create scenery involving mountains, water, pine trees, and sometimes a kind of comforting gray.

"only the beginning"

This is only the beginning of this journey. With every piece I create, I get a little better, and creating each piece gives my soul a little peace. Making art has become a necessity for me, and so as long as I am able, I will be creating. Thanks for joining me along the way. I always appreciate good company.
